Islamic Religion
The definition of Islam is the submissiveness, subjugation, acquisition, surrender, and the compliance with the orders and prohibitions of Allah Almighty without objection. Allah Almighty has given the true religion its name, Islam, because it is obedience to Allah Almighty and docility to him without objection, and devoting worship to him. Islam is the name of the religion that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent to deliver to humanity.
Reported, Abdullah bin Umar ( May Allah be pleased with them), said the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Islam is built on five pillars: bearing witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah , establishing prayer , paying Zakaah , Hajj and fasting Ramadan". 1
Pillars of Faith
Reported, Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him), the time when Gabriel (peace be upon him) sat down with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked him about Islam, faith and Ihsan, where he said, "Tell me about faith." He said to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the last day and the believe in fate and destiny both good and bad".2
Both the Pillars
of Islam, associated with the actions, and the pillars of faith, associated the
Heart, must be fulfilled in order to comply with the orders of Allah Almighty.
Allah Almighty said: " The believers are only those who, when Allah is
mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His Verses (this Qur'an) are
recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith; and they put
their trust in their Lord (Alone);Who perform
As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and
spend out of that We have provided them. It is they who are the believers in truth. For them
are grades of dignity with their Lord, and Forgiveness and a generous provision
(Paradise)" [Surat Al-Anfal, 2-4].
A human
being may fulfill the pillars of Islam: bearing witness that there is no God
but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah , establishing prayer ,
paying Zakaah ,performing Hajj and fasting Ramadan, and the pillars of faith:
to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the last day and to believe in
fate and destiny both good and bad, but he may not comply with other provisions
of the Holy Quran which are transactions (selling,
buying and inheritance, etc.) and morals in his dealings with other people.
By doing so,
that human being have separated religion from daily life.
Although he performs all worships, his bad dealings with other people take him
away from religion.
We see some
people despite of their commitment to worships, they take money from people
through scam and fraud and by cheating and deceiving and lying. Some people pray,
fast, pay Az-Zakaah and perform Hajj, and no
one is safe from their tongues through backbiting and gossip and envy and these are all sins that go beyond
being small sins.
